Dr. Patel is active in lecturing on retinal diseases and treatments at various optometric and ophthalmic continuing medical education programs. He also participates in medical education at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

At Henry Ford Eye Care services, Dr. Patel researched clinical applications of technology in the diagnosis and management of cystoid macular edema and glaucoma. His research involved confocal laser imaging systems such as the Retinal Thickness Analyzer and the Heidelberg Retinal Tomograph. At The Ohio State University, he was involved in the research and development of Radio-Immunoguided Surgery performed at the Arthur G. James Cancer and Research Institute.

Dr. Patel is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Ohio Ophthalmological Association and Ohio State Medical Association. He has volunteered for the Detroit Glaucoma and Diabetic Screenings.
